🔖 Book review: "One Of Us Is Lying" by Karen M. McManus

Hey there book lovers and fellow adventurers! Today, I'm super stoked to talk about this mind-bending book called "One of Us Is Liar." It's a total roller-coaster of a ride that will leave you guessing till the very last page!

Picture this, a group of high school students at an elite boarding school who are tangled up in a web of secrets, lies, and deceit. Then, bam! One of them ends up dead, and you have no clue who did it. Oh, and did I mention they all have something to hide?

rating: 4.5/5 ⭐

genre: mystery, thriller, young-adult fiction.

📌 Summary:

The story kicks off with an electrifying prologue that will send shivers down your spine. The plot follows four main characters: the brainiac, the athlete, the princess, and the rebel. They're not your typical besties, but they're forced together when their school faces a horrifying tragedy. The catch? You get to read from all their perspectives, which makes things crazily exciting!

💭 My own thought about the book:

I was totally hooked from page one! Each character has their quirks and secrets, and the author brilliantly weaves their stories together. You'll find yourself suspecting everyone at some point, and trust me, your theories will change faster than my mom changes her nail polish colors! The writing style is so immersive that it feels like you're right there in the school, trying to figure out the truth yourself.

👥 Characters: Let's talk about the characters, shall we? Bronwyn, the brainiac, is a total Hermione vibes, but with her fair share of secrets. Nate, the rebel, is swoon-worthy and mysterious. Addy, the princess, may seem shallow, but she's got hidden depths. And Cooper, the athlete, can break hearts with just a smile. They're all flawed and relatable, which makes the story even more gripping!

💡 Lessons & Meaning: "One of Us Is Liar" explores the theme of trust, the consequences of keeping secrets, and the lengths people would go to protect themselves and their loved ones. It shows that sometimes we don't really know the people we think we do, and the truth can be far more shocking than fiction.

📜 Famous Quotes: This book is filled with awesome quotes, but here's one that stuck with me: "Truth is not the absence of lies but rather the wilful determination to see them." Woah, right?

✨ Fun fact:

  • Rumor has it that the characters were inspired by a real-life group of friends at a boarding school, adding a whole new level of intrigue :000

  • By chance I ahd jsut recently found out that the book also have it own movie version which is available on Netflix. So check it out too!!!
